The Southwest Organizing Project stands firm in our commitment to “standing for the whole.” Regardless of who may take positions of power or stand opposed to what is in the best interest of our community, our work will persist. Our mission is clear: to build relationships, amplify voices, and create power that transcends race, ethnicity, faith, immigration and social status. Everyone deserves to be heard, and we will stop at nothing to make sure those voices resonate and lead to real change. We will continue to support our communities and families as they act collectively to improve the quality of life for everyone.
The Southwest Organizing Project’s (SWOP) mission is to build a broad-based organization of Christian, Muslim and Jewish faith institutions, local schools and other institutions in Southwest Chicago, which will enable families to exercise common values, determine their own future and connect with each other to improve life in their neighborhoods...
The Southwest Organizing Project’s (SWOP) mission is to build a broad-based organization of Christian, Muslim and Jewish faith institutions, local schools and other institutions in Southwest Chicago, which will enable families to exercise common values, determine their own future and connect with each other to improve life in their neighborhoods.
SWOP’s work aims to advance racial equity and economic justice. The Reclaiming Southwest Chicago Campaign is one example of this. Starting in the early 2000s unscrupulous real estate agents and mortgage brokers targeted Southwest Chicago as a community where they could sell products to buyers of color. These agents and brokers sold mortgages and services that the buyers could not afford, did not need, or that took advantage of their inexperience.
