Light in the Night Youth Olympics

On August 24th, 2024, the Southwest Organizing Project's (SWOP) Youth Organizers collaborated with TGI Movement and Communities Partnering 4 Peace (CP4P) to host the Light in the Night Youth Olympics at Marquette Park. The event was a vibrant celebration of community spirit, drawing a large crowd of young people eager to participate in various sporting and bonding activities. Marquette Park filled with energy as youth engaged in friendly competitions, including cornhole, volleyball, and an exciting kickball match. These Light in the Night events provide a fun and safe environment for young people to connect with one another and build positive relationships.

In addition to the sports activities, the Light in the Night Youth Olympics offered a range of creative and communal experiences. Participants enjoyed free food, which added to the festive atmosphere, while others took part in bracelet-making and tie-dye shirt workshops. These hands-on experiences allowed the youth to express their creativity and take home personalized mementos of the day. The event was a resounding success, showcasing the power of community collaboration and the importance of providing young people with opportunities to come together, have fun, and strengthen their bonds. SWOP is continuing its engagement with young people in places where youth voices can be amplified.
