The Southwest Organizing Project's (SWOP) community violence intervention team, Communities Partnering 4 Peace (CP4P), collaborated with Increase the Peace (ITP), CircEsteem, My Chi My Future, the Community Safety Coordination Center (CSCC), the Department of Family Support and Services (DFSS), and St. Clare of Montefalco to bring a memorable celebration to the Southwest Side of Chicago. This coalition of community-driven organizations joined forces to launch the Chicago Fall Fest 2024, a series of events dedicated to uplifting neighborhood gatherings and highlighting the strength of local connections. These events provided residents with a safe and enjoyable way to mark the fall season, amplifying a sense of unity and belonging.
On October 29th, CP4P hosted a special pumpkin carving event at St. Clare of Montefalco church, drawing an impressive crowd of 300-400 community members. Families and individuals of all ages enjoyed an evening filled with activities, from costume contests to an array of hands-on fun like pumpkin carving and painting stations. Attendees could also jump into a bouncy house or capture moments at the 360-degree camera station. The event featured live performances, including a local rock band, banda music, and a DJ who kept the energy high. Delicious fall treats like pozole, conchas, and churros were offered to add flavor to the festive evening, making it a truly multi-sensory celebration.
Beyond the entertainment, the event underscored the commitment of numerous community organizations to providing essential resources and building safe spaces throughout their communities. Metropolitan Family Services, the Chicago Public Library, the Chicago Park District, After School Matters, and the 8th District CAPS office all also contributed to making this evening an enriching experience for everyone. Representatives from each organization offered valuable information on health, safety, youth programs, and family services. Together with CP4P and the broader coalition of partners, these groups helped create a platform for both celebration and empowerment, reminding residents that resources and support are always close by. This gathering’s success showcased the power of partnership in fostering safe, joyful spaces for all and demonstrated how collective efforts can build a stronger, more united Southwest Side.
