On October 3rd and 4th, 2024, the Southwest Organizing Project (SWOP) partnered with GoodKids MadCity-Englewood (GKMC-E) to host a Get Out to Vote presentation and voter registration event at Hubbard High School. Organizers from both groups collaborated to engage students in a dynamic presentation that highlighted the power and influence of Black and Brown youth voters throughout history. The initiative aimed to empower students by emphasizing the importance of civic engagement and their potential role in shaping the future through voting.
While both SWOP and GKMC-E are 501(c)(3) organizations that do not endorse any political candidates, they are committed to ensuring their communities are informed and aware of the voting options available to them. This election is particularly unique as it will be the first time the power will be placed in the hands of Chicagoans to vote on who should be on the School Board. The presentation stressed the significance of being informed voters and encouraged students to recognize the collective power they hold by participating in elections.
